Girls in Technology Mentor-Protege Program


Women In Technology's flagship program Girls In Technology Mentor-Protégé Program, is designed to engage, educate, and inspire high school girls (Grades 9-12) in the DMV area to the vast array of opportunities available in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).  Girls In Technology's mentoring program connects High School girls interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers with professional women in STEM. 

The program is free and consists of five virtual sessions, one evening per month, from November-April.  Girls in the program learn about STEM education and careers, scholarship opportunities, build leadership skills, and develop skills for success and confidence.

Washington DC Join Plumbing Apprentice Committee Applications 2021-2022

The Washington DC Joint Plumbing Apprentice Committee is now accepting applications for the Apprentice Training Program's 2021-222 term. Applicants must apply online.  

Applicants must be 17 years of age by the time of application and have either a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older when placed in employment. Applicants must provide a birth certificate or passport, valid driver's license, high school diploma or GED certificate, transcript of grades in certified sealed school envelope or GED test scores.  There is an entrance exam to qualify for the apprenticeship program. There is a $50.00 non-refundable test fee to take the exam. Special Programs Coming this Spring and Summer 

Fairfax County Police Department's Teen Police Academy & Future Women Leaders in Law Enforcement

Week-long summer programs for teens to encourage diversity in law enforcement.   

The Police Academy programs were created in recognition of the need for diversity in policing. Although the Fairfax County Police Department is more diverse today than in previous years, the Department continues to seek opportunities to ensure its membership is reflective of the community it serves. There are two goals of the Police Academy programs. The first is to encourage those who attend to consider a career in law enforcement. The second is to educate participants about policing. Classes will be held Monday through Friday from 9:00am – 4:00pm at Lake Braddock Secondary School.  Students will participate in hands-on activities. Participants are expected to attend all classes.  Students are expected to provide their own transportation and bring a bagged lunch.

* Teen Police Academy (TPA)

July 12-16, 2021

Applications due: June 7, 2021

The program is offered free of charge and is open to all Fairfax County high school students enrolled in criminal justice classes and entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year. 2021 high school graduates with CJ classes may also apply.  Class size is limited to 25 students.  Participants will learn about: · Patrol · Crime Scene Investigation · Traffic Stops · SWAT · Trends in Law Enforcement, and more. FCPS CTE Summer Academy

Time: 8:30 am – 2 pm

Cost: $275/week

Eligibility: Current 7-11 graders

Dates:  Week 1 (July 12-16), Week 2 (July 19-23), Week 3 (July 26-30)
