Global Leaders of Fairfax County Fellowship 2022-23 for high school seniors (Class of 2023), who are resident of Fairfax County or Attend Fairfax County Public Schools, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher - Deadline to apply September 5, 2022.
Fairfax County Public Safety Cadet Program - Fall - 1 Nighter Events - Are you between 14 and 20 years old and have an interest in law enforcement? Join us for one of three 1st Nighter events to learn more about our Public Safety Cadet Program. During these events, you’ll learn more about the units, ask questions and receive an application. VDOT Transportation Career Fair - Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Prince William County Fairgrounds Manassas. This event brings together exhibitors who represent a wide variety of transportation related fields such as engineering, aviation, transit, architecture, technology, construction and environmental companies. View this video to see a past year's in-person event. Space is limited. Edison HS will take up to 40 students including Academy students who have transportation to and from Edison to travel by bus departing at approximately 8:30 a.m. to Manassas. See Ms Williford in the Academy office or Ms Cottingham in the Career Center at Edison HS if interested. Students from our Academy feeder high schools may also inquire with their high school career center about this trip opportunity.
7th Annual High School Career Forum (HSCF) - The Virginia Williams High School Career Association, Inc.(VWHSCA, Inc.) (formerly the Fort Hunt High School- Black Cultural Alliance Alumni High School Career Forum) will host the 7th annual High School Career Forum (HSCF) for all high school students, grades 9-12 on Sat. Oct 15, 2022, at the Gum Springs Community Center ( 8100 Fordson Rd. Alex. VA 22306) from 11am -1pm. This will be a hybrid event. A moderated panel will share detailed information (education and/or training) about different career options after high school graduation. Confirmed panelists for this year's HSCF: Nurse Educator, Current College Student, STEM, Trade School, U.S. Navy, FC Firefighter, Audio/Visual, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Entrepreneur and Office of Talent, Acquisition and Management for Fairfax County Public Schools. VETERINARY MEDICINE CAREERS EXPLORATION: A Virtual Workshop Created Especially for High School Students, Saturday, October 15, 2022, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Eastern Time. Join experts including: Dr. Aja Harvey, Veterinarian, B.W. Furlong & Associates, Clifton, NJ Dr. Gregory Costanzo, Pet Health Veterinarian, PET SMART, Phoenix, AZ as they share their educational journeys, career paths, and work experiences. This is a chance for students, in grades 9-12, to hear first-hand accounts about how practitioners prepared for vet school, mastered vet school, and chose their post-graduation careers. Women In Technology's flagship program Girls In Technology Mentor-Protégé Program, is designed to engage, educate, and inspire high school girls (Grades 9-12) in the DMV area to the vast array of opportunities available in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Girls In Technology's mentoring program connects High School girls interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers with professional women in STEM.
The program is free and consists of five virtual sessions, one evening per month, from November-April. Girls in the program learn about STEM education and careers, scholarship opportunities, build leadership skills, and develop skills for success and confidence.

On March 7, 2022, Mrs. Pat Locke, the first Black female student to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point, the oldest military academy in the United States, hosted a panel of experts who presented some avenues for students to fund their college education with funding rom government sources, such as the Federal Trio Program, Military Academies, College ROTC programs, STEM internships, and more. Mrs. Locke and the panel share amazing opportunities to decrease student financial debt and increase equitable access to college and career.
