FCPS Excellence Award Winner

On Wednesday, Joe Wolfe, Edison Academy’s Electrical teacher, was recognized at the FCPS Excellence Awards ceremony in the category of Impact on Others. Thank you Joe for your professionalism, dedication, and all that you do for our Edison Academy teachers and students. Joe is quick to share opportunities and to collaborate with others. He takes the lead in offering cross and co-curricular activities with other teachers. He involves his students in community service projects for non-profit organizations. Joe works with local business and industry leaders to place students in paid summer internships and youth apprenticeships while in high school and after graduation.
Elks Donate Safety Glasses and Share Scholarship Opportunity

Leaders from the Alexandria, VA Elks Lodge 758 visited on October 1, 2021 to donate almost 800 pairs of safety glasses for our students in the Edison Academy programs. Their annual donation of safety glasses continues to make them very special partners with our Academy. All students who need eye protection to work in our Academy labs and shops are guaranteed to have a pair each year thanks to the Elks. For college bound students check out their annual scholarship program. Applications are being taken now.
Fairfax County Police Department Visits Criminal Justice 2021-22

Criminal Justice level II students had a visit from the Fairfax County Police Department on September 13. Students learned about the department's role in serving and protecting Fairfax County citizens. Students also learned the qualifications for joining the force and career benefits for those who are chosen to serve. information about how to apply for the youth and young adult FCPS Public Safety Cadet program was also shared.
Cosmetology Students Earn Virginia Licensure!

Congratulations to our 2021 Cosmetology Program students from level two who earned their State Cosmetology License. These young people are now fully licensed to begin their careers in salons. Many thanks to their Edison Academy cosmetology teachers, Ms Irene Hall current school year, 2020-2021, and Ms Soussan Bayati ( now retired) last school year, 2019-2020, for helping these young people learn and achieve this milestone. Graduating Seniors Earn CTE Scholarships

Congratulations to our Edison Academy graduating seniors who earned Career and Technical Education focused scholarships from the Foundation for Applied Technical Education, The Rotary Club of Alexandria, and the Rotary Club of Springfield. These students demonstrated merit, leadership, and citizenship in their community as well as a dedication to their CTE program. We celebrate their good fortune and thank the sponsors of these scholarships that are given annually to Career and Technical Education students.
SkillsUSA Gold Medalist Meeka Williams

Edison Academy HVAC student, Meeka Williams, from McLean High School was presented the Virginia SkillsUSA Gold Medal in HVAC on June 3, 2021 by her instructor and SkillsUSA Advisor, Mr. Robert Stringham. Meeka was celebrated for her accomplishment with a visit from Former SkillsUSA National Executive Director, Lee Ross who delivered her gold medal and gifts from SkillsUSA business and industry partners. Meeka moves on now to the national SkillsUSA competitions which will be held virtually later this month. Congratulation to Meeka and to Mr. Stringham. who taught and coached Meeka in the HVAC -R program these past two years to help her become a true SkillsUSA champion! HVAC-R Students Pass EPA Certified Technician Exam

The Edison High School Academy program for Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) prepares students for successful employment in the workforce and offers them the opportunity to sit for the rigorous Environmental Protection Agency’s EPA Certified Technician exam. This exams provides students with a very important credential to offer employers who are seeking to hire and train HVAC Technicians for their workforce. Teacher Appreciation Week flew by with some very special recognitions for our hardworking teachers in the Edison Academy. Students and Student Ambassadors shared written and video messages of thanks, nominated their teachers for "Academy Awards" that were posted on the hallway walls, and there were food and treats throughout the week to recognize the efforts of our educators. We hope you know how much we appreciate you!
Johnson and Wales Visits Virtually in Culinary Arts

The wonders of technology brought Chef Jeff Harris of Johnson and Wales University and two of his colleagues to us for a live virtual visit in our Edison Academy Culinary Arts virtual classroom on February 12, 2021. Our guests shared a lively cooking demonstration and discussion about culinary education with students.
