Cummins, Inc. North American Diesel Technician Apprentice Programs

Cummins, Inc., a fortune 500 global company, adds over 90 apprentices to the Technician Pipeline each year. Their goal is to hire as many high school graduates as possible from ASE/NATEF accredited automotive and diesel program like Edison Academy's Automotive Technology program to fill the need for qualified diesel technicians. Highlights of the program are:
4 year/8,000 hour apprentice program, registered in all 50 states with the US Department of Labor. Student apprentices earn while they learn.
Cummins covers all tuition and associated travel expenses for the two year Associates of Science Degree in Diesel Technology.
Students attend full-time classes through partnerships with Community Colleges in Charlotte (NC), Vincennes (IN), or Salt Lake City (UT) in two-week blocks at least twice a year and take online classes throughout the entire program while working at a Cummins facility.
Criteria for students to be hired are: Must graduate from high school with a min. unweighted 2.8 GPA and be college entry ready in Math, English, and Reading.
Cummins provides a SnapOn Tool Box and Tools to all apprentices in the program.
Degree, Trade Certificates and Qualifications - Apprentice earns a free (no cost) AAS degree in Diesel Engines, are qualified on a minimum of three engine platforms, and earn a state and federal trade certificate for Diesel Engines.
Specialization in Engines, Power Generation, Marine, High Horsepower or Service Operations.
Students are hired at 50% of the top pay for diesel mechanics and progress to 85% within four years in the program.
Career paths include field technician, service supervisor, manager, specialist or trainer.

Vulcan Materials Company, Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship

Vulcan Materials Company is the nation's largest producer of construction aggregates and a major producer of aggregate-based construction materials. Vulcan materials Company offers high school graduates a state-registered apprenticeship that is a multi-year, paid program designed to provide a combination of hands-on work experience and the necessary academic studies to start a successful career as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic.

Salaried positions include accounting, human resources, community relations, plant office administration, and sales and small business account representatives.

Assistant to Stylists - Flexible schedule, This is a paid position, hourly wage + additional compensation. Duties include assisting the stylists with shampooing, blow drying, cleaning, doing laundry, and helping the salon run smoothly.
PR at Partners also offers an apprenticeship program. There is a 6-week in-salon probationary period working as an assistant to stylists before commencing any education and registration into the program. The educational program includes cutting, color, and communications classes. When you complete the program, you will be eligible to earn your Cosmetology License, but also a space on the shop floor. PR at Partners Hairdressing programs are task oriented. Students and Hairdressers are required to complete the set amount of classes in each program. Each program has an “Evaluation” or “Test Out” that will be completed to confirm a student’s advancement.

Each year an Apprentice works and attends related training classes increases the value of the apprentice to the employer. The pay structure is based on the Journeypersons hourly wage with increases of 5% every six months completed until year five.
1st year – 1st six months - 40% rate - $17.17 an hour or $34,340.00 a year 1st year – 2nd six months - 45% rate - $19.31 an hour or $38,620.00 a year 2nd year –1st six months - 50% rate - $21.46 an hour or $42,920.00 a year 2nd year – 2nd six months - 55% rate - $23.61 an hour or $47,220.00 a year 3rd year – 1st six months - 60% rate- $25.75 an hour or $51,500.00 a year 3rd year – 2nd six months - 65% rate- $27.90 an hour or $55,800.00 a year 4th year – 1st six months - 70% rate - $30.04 an hour or $60,080.00 a year 4th year – 2nd six months - 75% rate - $32.19 an hour or $64,380.00 a year 5th year – 80% rate - $34.34 an hour or $68,680.00 a year The current rate for licensed Journeypersons as of August 1st, 2018 is $42.92 an hour or $85,840.00 a year in your pocket. This does not include the fringe benefit package which raises the total wage of a licensed journeyperson plumber to $61.33 an hour or $122,660.00. The annual wages are based on a 2,000 hour year. In addition to these wages, the Apprentice receives benefits including Medical Coverage and Pension Plan. By providing a structured wage progression the apprentice is able to plan out their future and receive the benefits of hard work and determination.

Steamfitters US Local 602 Steamfitter Apprenticeship Program

The Steamfitter Apprenticeship program is a five year training program. Apprentices are assigned to a union contractor and work on assigned work sites, generally forty hours per week, depending on the job conditions and the economy. The apprentice is required to attend related training classes on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additional classes will be mandatory for first and second year apprentices on Saturdays as early as October and going through April. The apprentice is paid for hours worked on the job site but is not paid for attending related training classes. Accepted applicants will serve a one year probation period. The probationary apprentice who successfully completes the probationary period by meeting all obligations at assigned employment, in related training class and to the Local Union, will be initiated into the Local Union.
Our apprentices are required to follow the UA Standards of Excellence. Our apprenticeship program has a strict attendance policy. Excessive absences could result in postponement of both monetary and academic advancement or possible termination from the program. In order to advance to the next level of training, the apprentice must successfully complete each class and maintain acceptable job site performance evaluations.
Minimum Requirements for the 2019 application period:
Applicants must be 18 years old by August 15, 2019 (born before August 15, 2001) High school diploma by June 30, 2019 or GED certificate by December 31, 2018.
Apprentices are not charged tuition. The Heating, Piping and Refrigeration Training Fund covers the cost of an education worth over $30,000. All members, through their benefits package, pay into the Training Fund to help facilitate the continuation of a skilled union trade.
The only cost to the apprentice is the cost of text books, school supplies and certification fees which is typically less than $400 per year. Apprentices will be required to provide their own reliable transportation to work and school.

United Association – Union of Plumbers, Fitters, Welders & Service Techs

When an applicant is accepted into a UA Local Union apprenticeship program, it is similar to receiving a full-ride, tuition-free scholarship. While learning the trade, they also work for a contractor and earn wages to help support their families.

HVAC and Plumbing Apprenticeships with PHOCCVA

Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors of Virginia – PHOCCVA - PMPV/PHCC in conjunction with vocational training facilities throughout Virginia offers a great "4-Year" Plumbing & HVAC Apprenticeship Program. This program is BAT approved (Bureau of Apprenticeship Training) and is recognized across the State as well as in 32 other States. The program allows a student to go to school at night and work on the job during the day to earn a living while learning the trade. Students go to class three hours per night, two nights per week. There are 168 class hours available, over 56 days of instruction, and there are 2,000 hours of on-the-job-training. There is a set pay scale that the student is entitled to with a top out rate of $17.00 per hour. This class is a great way to train an employee who wants to make Plumbing or HVAC their trade. The cost is less than $1,000.00 per year and that includes books, lab fees and tuition.
Open Enrollment — Apprentices may enroll at any time throughout the year since there are no class scheduling requirements.
Pace of learning — Apprentices work at their own pace. Apprentices who are considerably experienced can typically move through the curriculum quickly. Individuals who are highly motivated can also work at a fast pace.
Convenience — Apprentices can work from the comfort of their home or office, at a schedule that best suits their needs. Apprentices may postpone e-Learning during peak work periods, setting aside time for study on weekends or other more convenient times.
