Course Description

Auto Collision, Level 1 

Credit: 1

Grades: 10-12

In this course, students are introduced to skill sets derived from industry standards in the auto body repair and restoration industry. The curriculum and laboratory activities are defined by I-CAR and include panel repairs, painting, frame and uni-body construction, steering, suspension, detailing, and welding.  In addition, students are exposed to the theoretical and practical aspects of this career.

Auto Collision, Level 2

Credit: 2

Grades: 11-12

In this course, students will refine existing skills and develop specific skills necessary to repair late-model damaged vehicles to their original condition. The curriculum and laboratory practices defined by I-CAR include the following: refinishing, metal working, welding, frame-straightening systems, uni-body measuring principles, structural repair, steering, suspension, mechanical, and electrical repairs. As an option, many students will have an opportunity to participate in internship experiences.

Services Offered - Auto Donations

Edison Academy accepts late model vehicles for both instructional purposes and for the Student Auto Sales (SAS) program. Student Auto Sales, sponsored by the Foundation for Applied Technical Education (FATE), refurbishes used vehicles for sale to the public. Proceeds benefit student competitions, scholarships, and the Automotive Technology and Automotive Collision Services programs. 

Requirements for vehicle donations: 
Most recent title and keys must be provided 
Vehicle must be delivered to the Edison Academy 
Drop offs not permitted

    Mr Cornwell comes to Edison Academy with more than 35 years in the Automotive Collision Industry. He is a Fairfax County Public Schools graduate who studied in the Career and Technical Education/Vocational programs while in high school. Charlie is looking forward to teaching and sharing his career experience with young adults who are interested in auto collision.

Collision Students Train on SimSpray Spray Simulator

Students in the Automotive Collision program at Edison Academy have a new tool to help train for refinishing in the Auto Collision field where technique is important. The SimSpray Virtual Spray Simulator being used in the classroom helps students to build muscle memory and dramatically improve their refinishing skills while in a safe chemical free environment.
