Edison Academy Shines at Regional SkillsUSA Competitions

Edison Academy had two programs complete in SkillsUSA this week. Below are the details and celebrations.

The Criminal Justice program had two teams compete in the SkillsUSA Regional Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) competition at Chantilly Academy on January 29, 2025.  The Edison Academy teams finished in second and third place.  Congratulations to the following students for their hard work:

  • Second place CSI team: Leena Alkhateeb, Edison HS, Maddie Conway, South County HS, and Anna Zolandz, West Springfield HS, as well as, team member alternate William May. 
  • Third place CSI team: Cecily Erickson, Lake Braddock HS, Katie Manzanares-Rivas, Edison HS, and Ellie Patterson (Lake Braddock HS)

Edison Academy hosted the SkillsUSA Electrical Construction Regional Competition on January 29, 2025.  Edison Academy swept the competition, earning the top 5 places. Congratulations to the following students for their hard work on the coding test as well as the multi-hour electrical build:

  • First place winner: Enrique Perez Silva,  Lake Braddock Secondary School
  • Second place: Edwin Solis Victoriano, Justice High School
  • Third place: Landon Bradstreet, IAS/Hayfield Secondary
  • Fourth place: Oscar Vasquez-Hernandez, Mount Vernon High School
  • Fifth place: Lauren “Ash” Sutton, Edison High School

With their incredible performances, Enrique Perez Silva as well as the team of  Leena Alkhateeb, Maddie Conway and Anna Zolandz, now advance to the SkillsUSA Virginia State Leadership and Skills Conference, April 4 – 6, 2025, in Roanoke, VA. The students are fortunate to have the leadership and support of their teachers Joe Wolfe for Electrical Construction, as well as Doug Dixon and John Kayajanian for Criminal Justice.
