Fairfax County Department of Vehicle Services Offers Internships to Auto Tech Students
Fairfax County Department of Vehicle Services Visits Auto Tech 2 & 3 to Share Information about Internship and Career Opportunities
Fairfax County Government Department of Vehicle Services (DVS) visited Edison Academy Auto Tech students on September 15 to provide students with an overview of internship and career opportunities working in a government organization to manage, maintain, and service an entire County organization's fleet of vehicles.
Speakers included a former high school intern, Tim T, an experienced mechanic, Steve, and Deputy Directors of Operations and Administration, Marguerite G and Dan G. Many thanks for their time given to visiting us and informing our students about DVS opportunities.
For more information and assistance with applying to 2022-23 internships see the Auto Tech instructor, Mr. Bogan, or Ms. Williford in the Academy office. Fairfax County DVS services and maintains over 6000 vehicles of all sizes and types that are owned and operated by the county including over 1500 school buses. DVS operates 4 facilities across the county; Germantown maintenance facility, West Ox facility, Newington and Alban Facility to maintain and service all the county vehicles. Very little work is contracted out. Most work including body work, electrical, and more is done in-house by county employees.
Students will have opportunities this fall to apply for a limited number of internships to gain paid work experience while learning about the field of Automotive Technology.
Here's a behind the scenes look at DVS.
