The FBI Assistant Director of the Directorate of Intelligence, Stephen C. Laycock, visited with Criminal Justice students on September 24, 2019 in the classroom.  Mr. Laycock, who graduated from Fairfax County Public Schools and Virginia Tech, has enjoyed 27 years of service with the FBI. He offered up a lot of good advise to students and provided insight into what a career with the FBI might look like from his own experience.  Students learned about:

  • What the FBI's mission is and how it fit with Mr. Laycock's career goal
  • What to do and not to do right now as high school students to keep their record spotless (cell phone digital footprints)
  • How to select a college and college major if the goal is to work for the FBI
  • Internship opportunities that are offered to college Juniors and Seniors at the FBI
  • How to become the best candidate possible for the competitive FBI selection process
  • What characteristics the FBI looks for in good agents
  • Categories of jobs within the FBI
  • The  hiring process ( US citizenship, background check, years of professional experience needed to be considered for an Agent position, testing/assessments to determine one's fit serving in the FBI, and more)
  • And examples of situations an agent might find themselves in when working in the field as an FBI agent.
