Time to Volunteer with Service Learning!
National Day of Service Opportunities in our Community
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday held on the third Monday in January (January 17 this year) and is observed as a national day of service. This day of service helps to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, address social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.”
FCPS will be teaming up again with Volunteer Fairfax who will facilitate a weekend of service to provide service opportunities for all ages. Volunteer Fairfax will begin offering both virtual, in-person, and family-friendly activities January 15-17.
To learn more about the Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend of Service and specific service activities, visit Volunteer Fairfax’s website for more information.

The Kindness Cloud Foundation is promoting a broad social media campaign. We need you to Expand the Outreach of Kindness through multiple social media channels. We need "self-organized student groups" to create Kindness Campaigns that can be promoted through websites, news media, and online publications. Your Kindness Campaign will encourage the Ripple Effect of Kindness and be a Role Model for students from other schools to follow. Think of yourself as an Outreach Campaign to increase interest in, and awareness of both the idea and value of Kindness. Your campaign can include social media posts, challenges, tips and ideas, stories highlighting Kindness, and/or videos featuring individuals sharing lessons they have learned about Kindness. You are in charge of designing and promoting it. Use your creativity! Recruit your friends to join you in promoting your social media campaign. Engage local schools, businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and civic and faith groups. Find free resources and posts at [KindnessCloud.org/ideas] or find Kindness messages on: [Facebook.com/KindnessCloud], [Instagram.com/TheKindnessCloud] or create your own! Once you have completed your Kindness Campaign, share your testimonial in an email at @email and/or tag us on social media @theKindnessCloud. Testimonials can be in the form of a video, story, or any other medium. We also encourage you to share your experience with your school news and local news media. The world needs leaders like you, especially now. We don’t have time to wait. We must Create a Kinder World. We all have a role to play!
