On Saturday December 7, young people and their parents visited the Edison Academy Culinary Arts program for a Gingerbread House Decorating Workshop. Culinary students made the gingerbread dough and formed the houses for participants who got to decorate them and take them home. The fundraiser generated profits to benefit the Culinary Arts program and canned goods were collected for a local charity, The Coinonia Foundation.

On November 20 and 21 the US Parks Police Mounted Unit made a visit to Edison Academy to share the mission of their police force and to explain and demonstrate the role that police horses play in public safety. Police horses, Trooper and Cayson, were our equine guests for two days with Criminal Justice classes and Veterinary Science Students.

We had a great turnout for the Apprenticeship & Skilled Workforce Career Fair on November 7, 2019 . Thank you to the 57 exhibitors and over 600 visitors who attended the event to explore careers that are available through apprenticeships and training for a skilled or specialized trade. Thirty students from the Criminal Justice classes visited the FBI National Academy at Quantico on November 12, 2019, to see and hear about the Academy's rigorous training program for both FBI and DEA trainees. Students learned of the many areas that there are careers with the FBI and even had the opportunity to see some DEA recruits in training.

Edison Academy recognizes students with Student of the Quarter and Certificates of Achievement each grading period for their outstanding effort and achievements in the classroom. These are our First Quarter award recipients.

Level 1 Cosmetology students received their new Cosmetology Kits which include the basic styling tools, scissors and other tools of their trade.

The Veterinary Science program includes a school-based business for pet grooming, the hygienic care and cleaning of a pet. Students get hands-on experience with domestic pets in the Veterinary Science lab while providing basic grooming services.

Jeff Deem, Edison HS Class of 1967, recently donated energy management and Direct Digital Control equipment to our HVAC-R Program. Thank you to Mr. Deem!

First year Electrical Construction & Engineering students build their first circuits in the lab.

Students in Culinary Arts made their first biscuits for a baking lesson. Students learned about the fine art of creating a tender dough that rises just enough to make the perfect biscuit.

Deputy Eaddy and Sergeant Hoffmaster from the Alexandria Sheriff's Office visited with Criminal Justice classes to talk with students about the Criminal Justice Academy and the training involved to prepare for a career in law enforcement. Students go to try out some of the training and protective equipment used by law enforcement officers during their visit.

On October 8 and 9, 2019 the Gang Unit for the Fairfax County Police Department visited with Criminal Justice students to provide an overview of the Gang Intelligence Unit, law pertaining to gang participation, the identification of gangs, and gang activity/trends in the region.
