The Cosmetology level II students recently enjoyed an informative and inspiring message from Perry Smith, barber and master aesthetician followed by a demonstration of his clipper skills and a presentation to the Cosmetology teacher of his patented design Smith-Scott micro straight razor specifically designed for precision work and smaller hands.

United Rentals visited with some of our trades students in the Electrical Construction and Engineering classes to talk about career options for electricians in the power equipment supply chain.

On December 10, 2022, Culinary Arts students and their instructor, Chef Glenn Walden, hosted a Gingerbread House Workshop for the community. This workshop helped raise funds for the Culinary Arts program, collected canned goods for a local shelter, and provided participants with a take-home gingerbread house to enjoy for the coming winter break holidays! Edison Academy first year Cosmetology students recently had a lesson in the special needs of and psychology behind providing client services to small children affectionately called "littles" in the industry. A special thank you to Mrs. Maureen Smith for bringing in this special "little" client.

A huge thank you to all the school counselors who visited with us this week for our "Bring Your Counselor to the Academy Days"! Everyone had a great time! FCPS high school counselors, who accepted the invitation, got to spend a class period with one of their students/advisees to experience first hand the unique and exciting aspects of our Edison Academy programs. We hope to see more counselors next year for this special event.

The Edison Academy Automotive Collision Program was recently evaluated by the ASE Education Foundation. President, Michael Coley, of the foundation confirmed that the program meets strict industry standards for accreditation in Damage/Analysis/Estimating/Customer Service and Painting and Refinishing. The program received compliments for attaining a level of excellence in providing quality automotive training for which the educational and automotive communities can be proud.

Edison Academy hosted an event for new school counselors and others who advise students on academic and career decisions on December 1, 2022. Guests were treated to a student panel, tours of classrooms and labs to see classes in action, and heard from a variety of Academy staff about their work and roles to support students at Edison Academy. Thank you to all who attended!

On December 2nd Richard Fanelli, AIA, CFM, FMP, IFMA Fellow, with FMStudios and Troy Taylor, CRL, FMP, a Smithsonian Institution facility manager, both IFMA members, met with trades students at Edison High School Academy in Alexandria, VA to discuss the Facilities Management profession as a career option and to promote IFMA, Skills USA and the Facilithon program.

On November 22, 2022 Cosmetology students offered salon services under the direction of their instructor, Ms. Irene Hall, for a 'Thankful For You' day for family members and Academy staff who support the students with career development, SPED and ESOL services.

Criminal Justice 1 students visited the DEA museum and heard from multiple DEA staff members about their work on November 29, 2022. Thank you to the DEA agents who made this visit possible. Our students really enjoyed completing the Junior Field Agent activity in the museum too!
