The US Parks Police Horse Mounted Unit visited with Criminal Justice and Animal Science classes at Edison Academy. Parks Police Officers spoke to students about the US Parks Police, one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the United States. Formed by George Washington in 1791 as the Park Watchmen, the US Parks Police serve today primarily in the National Parks in areas near Washington DC, New York and San Francisco. The Parks Police equine officers taught our students about how communications between man and animal and they conducted demonstrations of skills using their horses for policing, such as crowd control and pursuit.
