Cyber: Cloud Computing - Honors or DE

Grades: 11, 12  |  Credit: 1  |  +0.50 weight for Honors, 1.0 weight for DE  |  Prerequisite: Cyber: Network Admin 1 or Cyber: Cisco 1

Students focus on cloud infrastructure, deployment, security models, and the key considerations in migrating to cloud computing. This course covers the technologies and processes required to build traditional, virtualized, and cloud data center environments, including computation, storage, networking, desktop and application virtualization, business continuity, security, and management. An internship opportunity may be available with this course; where students combine classroom instruction and supervised on-the-job training in an approved position with continuing supervision throughout the school year.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations from 2023 to 2033. About 356,700 openings are projected each year, on average, in these occupations due to employment growth and the need to replace workers who leave the occupations permanently. Demand for these workers will stem from greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, and information security. The median annual wage for this group was $104,420 in May 2023, which was higher than the median annual wage for all occupations of $48,060.
