Greetings Edison Academy Families,
Happy Halloween! It is hard to believe that today, Thursday, October 31st, marks the end of the first quarter. There will be a two-hour early release for students today. Please note that on Friday, November 1st there is no school for students and staff for the Diwali holiday. Monday, November 4th, and Tuesday, November 5th, are student holidays and there is no school for students.
Students are still busy earning industry certifications and learning new workplace skills. Culinary Arts students recently took their ServSafe National food safety certification exam.
We have had a successful first quarter and have lots to celebrate. Our upcoming Student of the Quarter award winners will be announced in our November newsletter and also posted on our website.
We will continue sending you a monthly newsletter to share important information and good news.
Sincerely,
Monica Bentley, Academy Administrator

Welcome Mr. Dixon to Edison AcademyMr. Dixon's career path is marked by diverse experiences and significant contributions to public service. After practicing law for eight years and teaching high school, he joined the FBI in 2004. Over the next two decades, he served in various roles, including Special Agent, Supervisory Special Agent, and Unit Chief, working in locations such as Laredo, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Clarksburg, West Virginia; and the Washington, D.C. area. His investigative work encompassed a broad spectrum of criminal activity, including drug cartels, kidnappings, child exploitation, assaults on federal officers, human trafficking, public corruption, healthcare fraud, money laundering, and counterterrorism. Additionally, Mr. Dixon spent five years as an instructor at the FBI Academy, training new agents and analysts, and was certified as a hostage negotiator. He retired from the FBI in 2024 and now joins Edison Academy.
Haunted HouseEdison Academy's 2nd Annual Haunted House was a huge success. This year they were able to add an evening component where the local community was able to come out and enjoy for a minimal cost of $1! Thank you to Mr. Wolfe and the collaborative work from all of the academy classes for making this a spooky good time!

LanyardsAll students that are not Edison High School students who attend Edison Academy have received an Edison Academy lanyard. It is expected that all feeder Academy students display their lanyards around their neck when entering the building, in the hallways, and when they are exiting the building. This was shared with all students at our beginning of the year orientation. This presentation has also been posted in Schoology by our teachers. Moving forward, if your student needs a replacement lanyard there will be a $5.00 fee.
AttendancePlease contact the Edison Academy attendance office if your student will be absent or staying at the base school due to an altered schedule. Our telephone number is 703-924-8137 or email us at [email protected]. This is in addition to informing the base school attendance office.
