This course is taken in conjunction with a CTE content course. The course is designed to allow students to participate in the Virginia Registered Youth Apprenticeship Program. For more information on applicable companion courses see the Virginia Youth Apprenticeship site.
Students must have instructor permission and an employer willing to sponsor the apprenticeship with the Virginia Department of Labor Youth Apprenticeship program. Students must have transportation to job site.
Students should achieve a minimum of 280 work hours through their apprenticeship for the school year (70 hours per quarter).
Each student participant must be at least 16 years old and in the 11th or 12th grade. Must be in good standing in school, be enrolled in a occupation specific Career and Technical Education Program that supports the occupation. Student must maintain passing grades and satisfactory attendance. Employer/Sponsors may have additional requirements. Students who do not meet the required criteria may be withdrawn from the course.

Earn a portable credential for on the job training hours through their sponsoring employer towards their Virginia Youth Registered Apprenticeship (YRA) in conjunction with earning apprenticeship course credit for YRA through successful completion of their associated high school content course.
May lead to opportunities for continuing employment at the discretion of the employer/sponsor subject to all standard on the job training and related technical instruction requirements.
