Edison Academy has nineteen Teachers for Tomorrow students who are taking part in internships in 9 different elementary, middle, or high schools this spring. We are proud of these young people and thankful to their cooperating teachers for sponsoring them for this valuable work-based learning experience.

Edison Academy Culinary Arts students participate in the school-based 2023 Chopped style competitions over three days just prior to spring break. Challenged with mystery ingredients for day 1-appetizer, day 2-entree, and day 3-dessert creations students teams had to incorporate elements of creativity, presentation, taste, and use of all ingredients into each item they prepared.

Chris Corridon, owner of Jim Corridon Electric, and Owen Collins, former electrical trades students from Edison Academy, now a foreman with Corridon, recently spoke to students about the electrical industry, giving insight into the day to day work of an electrical business, the diversity of career specialties in the trade, as well as advice for career advancement.

Congratulations to HVAC & Refrigeration instructor, Robert Stringham, for recently publishing books through Amazon focused on the HVAC trade and Career and Technical Education. The series HVAC Basics books will be helpful resources for new HVAC instructors in public schools and private training programs and the CTE book for Program Advisory Committees, will serve as a helpful guidebook for those starting up or revamping their advisory committees and their work.

Many thanks to our trade and industry supporters for the generous donations to help support our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. To name just a few, Trademasters Services, Cropp Metcalfe, Jim Corridon Electric, all recently donated to our HVAC and Electrical Construction and Engineering programs.

Edison Academy instructors in Automotive Collision Services and HVAC & Refrigeration were formally recognized recently for successful recertification earlier in the school year. Business, industry and educational supporters were on hand with some of our students to join in the celebration of this huge accomplishment that comes around every 5-7 years for most Career and Technical Education programs.

Cropp Metcalfe owner, Tim Cropp, and members of his team visited Edison Academy on March 14, 2023 to talk with students about careers in the HVAC industry where they can serve their community members by keeping them in comfortable temperatures with good quality air where ever they may be. Students also learned about the Cropp Metcalfe Academy where they may continue on with the training they have begun at Edison Academy after high school in order to become Virginia licensed HVAC technicians. Edison Academy thanks Cropp Metcalfe for their support and partnership of the HVAC & Refrigeration program.

Congratulations to three Edison Academy Cyber: IT students who earned recognition at the Regional FBLA student conference competitions! Winners move on to the state competitions March 31 through April 1, 2023.

Greg Davis of the Steamfitters Union, Local 602 visited with Edison Academy students on February 14, 2023 to share information about advanced education and career opportunities to be found through membership in the local union.

Nail Technician and Entrepreneur, Samantha Satterly visited with level 2 Cosmetology students in February to do a full demonstration of creating acrylic nails and nail art. Students practiced skills they observed ion each other as she conducted her demonstration.

Congratulations to our Edison Academy students who competed in the District SkillsUSA competitions this winter. First and Second place winners will advance on to the State Competitions at the Virginia SkillsUSA Conference to be held April 21-23, 2023 in Virginia Beach, VA.
