Aaron King

Irene grew up in Fairfax County and is currently a resident of Prince William County with her husband, son, and daughter. She earned her Cosmetology license after attending Potomac Academy of Hair Design and has worked in the Cosmetology & Barbering industry for over 30 years. Irene obtained her Instructors license and began teaching in 2015 for Fairfax County Public Schools. She loves teaching and is dedicated to the success of each student.

Marla is a lifelong resident of Virginia, growing up in Prince William County. She is a wife, mom of 2 great kids and a Licensed Veterinary Technician.  She received her AAS in Veterinary Technology from Northern Virginia Community College.  She has spent over 30 years working in veterinary hospitals including a few small animal general practices, the large animal teaching hospital at VA Tech, and an emergency and critical care practice. One of her greatest enjoyments in her career was training and teaching others and this is what led her to become a veterinary science teacher. 

Kim Karayannis has taught at Edison High School for her entire career of over twenty years and is passionate about helping future educators learn about the teaching profession in the Teachers for Tomorrow program at Edison Academy. She also teaches history and AVID at Edison High School. She lives in Prince William county with her two children and two dogs. She is active on various committees that serve Edison students and teachers.

Mr Cornwell has worked for more than 35 years in the Automotive Collision industry prior to coming to Edison Academy as the Auto Collision Services teacher in 2019. He is a Fairfax County Public Schools graduate who studied in the Career and Technical Education/Vocational programs while in high school. Charlie is looking forward to teaching and sharing his career experience with young adults who are interested in auto collision.

Mr. Kayajanian came to Edison Academy as a criminal justice teacher in 2019. Prior to joining the Academy, he worked as a Police Officer, and as a Deputy Sheriff in Alexandria, Virginia. He held specialized positions such as gang unit deputy, emergency response team member, and was trained in crisis intervention strategies. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Studies and a Masters Degree in Education with a concentration in Special Education.

Mr. Russell came to Edison Academy as a Criminal Justice teacher in 2017. Prior to joining the Academy faculty, he worked as a Deputy Sheriff, and with juvenile and adult probation, and held specialized positions such as Field Training Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Training Facilitator, Facilitator Trainer, Team Leaders, and Supervisor. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and a Masters degree in Administration of Justice and Security.

Katharine Rineer is the Academy’s ESOL resource teacher. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from George Mason University, an M. Ed. in Social Foundations of Education and an ESOL endorsement from the University of Virginia. Mrs. Rineer has been with FCPS since 1987 and brings a wide range of academic experience to Edison Academy. Mrs. Rineer has three children and has lived in several foreign countries while her husband pursued his military career. She enjoys reading and traveling.

Glenn Walden has been the Culinary Arts Instructor at the Edison Academy since 2008. Prior to joining the academy, Chef Walden was Dean of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management at Stratford University in Falls Church, VA. Glenn began his culinary career during high school at a family restaurant. He worked his way up the ranks for the next 10 years in restaurants, a private country club and a 4 star French restaurant around Bethlehem, PA. He opened and was Executive Chef of the Prime Rib Pub family restaurant before entering The Culinary Institute of America. Upon graduation from the CIA in 1991, he moved to Virginia to open the Lansdowne Conference Resort in Leesburg. Chef Walden earned his M. Ed from Virginia Tech. He is married and has two children. He enjoys sailing and woodworking, and is the owner of Knives by Walden, specializing in custom knife handles and kitchen tools.

John, an FCPS graduate, holds an Associates Degree in Automotive Technology. He has many years of trade experience and is an ASE Certified Master Technician. John taught Automotive Technology at Marshall Academy and Hayfield Secondary School before coming to the Edison Academy.

Jennifer graduated from Hayfield Secondary School in 1999 and attended Christopher Newport University studying psychology. During breaks from college, Jennifer started working at Edison High School as a substitute teacher. From there she began working full time in the main office. After two years she accepted a position working in Subschool II. In August of 2007, she gratefully accepted a Finance position in the Edison Academy.
