Thirty students from the Criminal Justice classes visited the FBI National Academy at Quantico on November 12, 2019, to see and hear about the Academy's rigorous training program for both FBI and DEA trainees. Students learned of the many areas that there are careers with the FBI and even had the opportunity to see some DEA recruits in training.

Edison Academy recognizes students with Student of the Quarter and Certificates of Achievement each grading period for their outstanding effort and achievements in the classroom. These are our First Quarter award recipients.

Level 1 Cosmetology students received their new Cosmetology Kits which include the basic styling tools, scissors and other tools of their trade.

The Veterinary Science program includes a school-based business for pet grooming, the hygienic care and cleaning of a pet. Students get hands-on experience with domestic pets in the Veterinary Science lab while providing basic grooming services.

Jeff Deem, Edison HS Class of 1967, recently donated energy management and Direct Digital Control equipment to our HVAC-R Program. Thank you to Mr. Deem!

First year Electrical Construction & Engineering students build their first circuits in the lab.

Students in Culinary Arts made their first biscuits for a baking lesson. Students learned about the fine art of creating a tender dough that rises just enough to make the perfect biscuit.

Deputy Eaddy and Sergeant Hoffmaster from the Alexandria Sheriff's Office visited with Criminal Justice classes to talk with students about the Criminal Justice Academy and the training involved to prepare for a career in law enforcement. Students go to try out some of the training and protective equipment used by law enforcement officers during their visit.

On October 8 and 9, 2019 the Gang Unit for the Fairfax County Police Department visited with Criminal Justice students to provide an overview of the Gang Intelligence Unit, law pertaining to gang participation, the identification of gangs, and gang activity/trends in the region.

Edison Academy Students who attended the VDOT Career Fair on November 3, 2019 got to learn about careers related to transportation including the fields of construction, engineering, the environment, and public safety. Students got lots of free swag and enjoyed hands-on-activities, trying their hand at operation construction equipment, observing demonstrations, and networking and learning about careers from the almost 100 indoor and outdoor exhibitors at the Prince William County Fairgrounds in Manassas, VA.

Edison Academy students from Culinary Arts, HVAC & Refrigeration, Electrical Construction & Engineering, and Veterinary Science visited the state Fair on September 31 and October 1. Students in Veterinary Science visited to learn about the ties between Veterinary medicine and livestock and farm animals while students in Culinary Arts, HVAC & Refrigeration, and Electrical Construction & Engineering classes competed in contests sponsored by Virginia SkillsUSA.
