We are proud of our creative and talented Academy SpEd Support Teacher, Adam Wells! In his spare time Adam takes salvaged materials and creates awesome sculptures, unique art and original built projects! Adam supports our Automotive Technology, Automotive Collison, and Veterinary Science programs here at Edison Academy. He is also the Edison High School Varsity Baseball Coach. Adam was recently chosen as a contestant in the 2022 DIY Hero Competitions that celebrates makers, crafters, builders, and life hackers. We wish Adam all the best in bringing in the top number of votes to claim this year's grand prize!  

Criminal Justice students were treated to two outstanding field trips to the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) branch headquarters in March, 2022 where students heard from a panel of top notch speakers, including the Chief of Operations, Ray Donovan. Students also had a quick visit to tour the DEA museum.

Edison Academy Electrical Construction & Engineering (ECE) students went head to head with Arlington County Career Center electrical students in the District SkillsUSA contests on Friday, March 4, 2022 to claim victory and the opportunity to represent the northern Virginia region at the state SkillsUSA Leadership Conference April 8-9 in Virginia Beach, VA. Edison Academy students claimed all 5 spots in the contest's "Top 5" in the contests with Sergio Cuxum Calel, an 11th grader from Justice HS, claiming the 1st place win.

Cyber students took their third round of Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification exams last week.  21 more certifications were earned with a total of 54 certifications earned thus far for the school year in Cyber: IT classes.  Congratulations to our Cyber students and their teacher, Mr. Kuesters.

Congratulations to the eleven advanced Automotive Technology students who passed the ASE A5Brakes Exam. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is the national institute which certifies professionals and shops in the automotive industry. Cosmetology, level 2, students were excited to welcome Gretchen Kuney, a Salon Development Consultant for BeautyScope, LLC, as a guest speaker and presenter on February 15, 2022. Ms. Kuney shared information about the work and opportunities in the beauty industry for Salon Development Consultants as well as offering a glimpse into the work of licensed nail technicians. Ms. Kuney, who has both of these professional distinctions, in her resume of experience kept the students thoroughly engaged during her visit. Congratulations to the twenty Electrical Construction and Engineering students who have earned the International Code Council's certification for electrical codes. Student's being reocognized for this distinction are listed in the full blog post. Click to read.

During the week of February 7-11, National School Counseling Week, Edison Academy students and staff celebrated their academy school counselor and career experience specialist with appreciation posters, personal notes, and cards.

Edison Academy Cosmetology level 2 students were visited by Springfield, VA, Salon Enclave owner, Torao Kubo, on Friday, December 10th for a demonstration of the Balayage method of hair highlighting.

The Representative from Advanced Technical Institute in Virginia Beach, VA visited with HVAC and Refrigeration students in November to share information about their advanced trades education opportunities for HVAC, Welding, Automotive, Diesel/Heavy Vehicle/ and Commercial (Truck) Driving programs.
