Congratulations to our students who have been awarded scholarships from the Foundation of Applied Technical Education. Daniel C.V., Robin V., and Abdullah H. were all recognized with $1000 Tool Scholarships. John "Ryan" N. also received an Apprentice scholarship of $2500 sponsored by Integrity Real Estate to be used towards advanced education at his chosen school/apprenticeship training program.

Congratulations to Edison Academy Students, Momina A. and Tanzim M., who have been selected to receive $2500 Career and Technical Education scholarships from the local Rotary Club of Alexandria.

The Edison High School Academy program for Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) prepares students for successful employment in the workforce and offers them the opportunity to sit for rigorous Environmental Protection Agency’s EPA exams. These exams provide students with a very important credential to offer employers who are seeking to hire and train HVAC Technicians for their workforce. Check out our students who achieved this outstanding benchmark in the HVAR-R program.

Edison Academy teachers are being treated to a full week of celebrating them in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Week, but the highlight of the week has been by far the freshly cooked pancake breakfast, with all the trimmings, on Tuesday! Five Teachers for Tomorrow students took and passed their ParaPro certifications. See their names in the full blog! The ParaPro Assessment is for prospective and practicing paraprofessionals. It measures skills and knowledge in reading, math and writing and the ability to apply those skills and knowledge to assist in classroom instruction. Congratulations to our students and their teacher, Ms. Kimberly Karayannis!

Congratulations to Auto Collision Services teacher, Charlie Cornwell for being recognized by the Washington Metropolitan Auto Body Association as a WMABA member and for his efforts to improve the Collision Industry of our region by providing leadership, education, and initiatives that foster and uplift his students professionally in the collision industry.

Culinary Arts students competed in Chopped Competitions over the course of three days, preparing appetizer, entree, and dessert from challenging ingredients revealed to them each day of the competitions. Local judges included cooking enthusiasts, a former professional chef, and other foody volunteers.

We are proud of our creative and talented Academy SpEd Support Teacher, Adam Wells! In his spare time Adam takes salvaged materials and creates awesome sculptures, unique art and original built projects! Adam supports our Automotive Technology, Automotive Collison, and Veterinary Science programs here at Edison Academy. He is also the Edison High School Varsity Baseball Coach. Adam was recently chosen as a contestant in the 2022 DIY Hero Competitions that celebrates makers, crafters, builders, and life hackers. We wish Adam all the best in bringing in the top number of votes to claim this year's grand prize!  

Criminal Justice students were treated to two outstanding field trips to the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) branch headquarters in March, 2022 where students heard from a panel of top notch speakers, including the Chief of Operations, Ray Donovan. Students also had a quick visit to tour the DEA museum.

Edison Academy Electrical Construction & Engineering (ECE) students went head to head with Arlington County Career Center electrical students in the District SkillsUSA contests on Friday, March 4, 2022 to claim victory and the opportunity to represent the northern Virginia region at the state SkillsUSA Leadership Conference April 8-9 in Virginia Beach, VA. Edison Academy students claimed all 5 spots in the contest's "Top 5" in the contests with Sergio Cuxum Calel, an 11th grader from Justice HS, claiming the 1st place win.
